ANC refutes claims of missed deadline in registering elections candidates

Published on

The ANC has addressed reports of it supposedly missing its own deadline to resolve candidate disputes for the upcoming local government elections, claiming that processes are on schedule.

The African Nation Congress (ANC) issued a statement on Tuesday, 14 September 2021, in which it addressed the ongoing issue on its internal elections deadlines. The party stated that it had noted a misleading headline from a local publication stating, “ANC misses its own deadline to resolve candidate disputes.”

The ANC conveyed that while the body of the article was accurate, the headline created the impression that it had failed to meet one of its most important internal deadlines towards the local government elections. It also maintained that it is satisfied with all of its processes being firmly on track and proceeding according to schedule to meet specified timelines, as set out by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC). The ruling party assured its members and supporters that it would register all of its candidates with the IEC by Tuesday, 21 September 2021.
