ANC launches crowdfunding campaign to help sustain party

Published on

The ANC has launched a new strategy for fundraising, through a crowdfunding campaign aimed at getting members and supporters to fund its programmes and activities.

The African National Congress (ANC) issued a statement on Sunday, 29 August 2021, on its crowdfunding campaign. The party announced the launch of a new strategy for fundraising that is set to be responsive to the Political Party Funding Act requirements.

The ANC stated that the crowdfunding is aimed at mobilising its members and supporters to participate in funding its programmes and activities. According to the party, the crowdfunding campaign came into effect on Thursday, 12 August 2021, in an effort to encourage members and supporters of the party to make a contribution into a centralised and single account.

It further expressed that it hopes the plan will be able to generate active interest in the sustenance of the organisation, and that it was encouraged by the initial response to the initiative, which it hopes will only grow in participation. The Political Party Fund Act is said to require a declaration of all donations of R100 000 and above, of which the ANC will declare such donations to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of South Africa. The ANC also noted that it values concerns and contributions which can be made to the central fundraising account.
