The ANC has released a statement in response to the news of Ace Magashule being issued with a warrant of arrest, with the party claiming that it is currently closely monitoring the situation.
The African National Congress (ANC) took to Twitter on Tuesday, 10 November 2020, to circulate a statement after news of Ace Magashule being issued a warrant of arrest made headlines. The warrant of arrest relates to his alleged involvement in the Free State asbestos housing project. Probes into the controversial project have already led to the arrest of Edwin Sodi.
Without providing any details on the matter, the ruling party stated, “The ANC will be monitoring these developments closely, and will accordingly communicate on any update should the need arise.”
This appears to contradict the party’s previous commitment to doing away with corruption, with Mzwandile Masina being amongst those calling for implicated individuals to step down. However, the party has made it clear that currently, Magashule has its backing, as many wait to see whether he will be found guilty of a crime he has categorically denied being a part of.
