ANC agrees to reimburse the state for controversial trip to Zimbabwe
The ANC has released a statement confirming that it will reimburse the state for its “unusual” means of travelling to Zimbabwe using state resources.
The African National Congress (ANC) released a statement on Tuesday, 15 September 2020, which addressed the controversial matter of its delegation travelling to Zimbabwe in the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) Airforce jet. The bulk of the statement provided an overview of the party’s meeting with the Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF).
However, in a single paragraph, the ruling party addressed the contentious matter which sparked outrage last week. The party stated, “We travelled in an unusual manner and profusely humble ourselves where we went wrong during the lockdown, and (we) will reimburse the government for the costs incurred on behalf of our delegation.”
To end off the statement, the ANC asserted that its delegation is abiding by the national lockdown rules, claiming, “Our delegation is currently in quarantine, in line with our lockdown regulations.”
