The ANC has acknowledged the court papers filed by its suspended SG, Ace Magashule, which it will publicly address after its NEC meeting.
The African National Congress (ANC) took to Twitter on Sunday, 16 May 2021, to confirm receipt of the court papers filed by its suspended Secretary-General (SG), Ace Magashule. The legal papers are believed to be Magashule’s attempt to reverse his suspension. Moreover, the court documents reportedly stated that Magashule is planning to have his suspension of party president, Cyril Ramaphosa reinstated.
Magashule had suspended Ramaphosa following reports of his own suspension. Thereafter, the party suspended Magashule not only from his position, but from the party too. In what is believed to have been an effort to showcase unity, the ruling party had given Magashule 48 hours to apologise. His 48 hours came to an end on Friday, 14 May 2021, with Magashule having not apologised.
It seems that the matter will be resolved in court. The ANC stated that it will detail its stance on the matter on Monday, 17 May 2021, after its NEC meeting.
