AFROPUNK returns to South African shores for a second year

The full line-up of this year’s AFROPUNK Festival has been revealed with mixed reactions from the public.

Details of the 2018 AFROPUNK Festival have been revealed and this year’s theme is The People Resist, a call to action against racism, patriarchy and all forms of hate.

Founders of the festival refer to it as a festival that is “defining culture by the collective creative actions of the individual and the group. It is a safe place, a blank space to freak out in, to construct a new reality, to live your life as you see fit, while making sense of the world around you.”

This year’s line-up features the likes of local hitmakers Moonchild Sanelly, YoungstaCPT, Thandiswa Mazwai and international sensation, Kaytranada.  Fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on the line-up.

Entertainment commentator and brand influencer, Phil Mphela commented:

“@busiswah has been actively involved in empowering minorities. She hires and is loved by gays. PLUS she is immensely talented and has the biggest hits on rotation and radio. Why is she not on AfroPunk lineup?”

While some Twitter users are disappointed about Solange Knowles not being on this year’s line-up, but also expressed their excitement about international acts Thundercat and Kaytranada.

“My life is falling apart but Afropunk is bringing Thundercat and Kaytranada,”says Twitter user @IAreNotDarren.
