Over the weekend, actress and human rights activist Nomzamo Mbatha was honoured with the Goddess Beauty Award at the International Women of Power Awards held in Los Angeles.
The South African actress, human rights activist and media personality received the Goddess Beauty Award at the International Women of Power Awards in Los Angeles over the weekend. On Sunday, 10 March 2019, Mbatha posted a picture of herself with the award across her social media platforms. She expressed her honour at receiving the award.
“Yesterday I received an International Women of Power Award in LA and I am so grateful and honoured. Thank you to Diaspora dialog for the Goddess Beauty Award,” Mbatha tweeted.
In January 2019, Mbatha was appointed as the newest ambassador for the United Nations Refugee Agency. In a statement, the agency cited Mbatha’s work in the LuQuLuQu campaign since she started in 2017. “Mbatha’s engagement includes visits to experience UNHCR’s life-saving work in camps and settlements in Malawi, Kenya and South Sudan,” read the statement.
On Sunday afternoon, 10 March 2019, Mbatha took to Instagram to share her joy with her followers. She captioned a picture in which she is holding the award, “And so here she is with dust on her feet, knowing both victory and defeat, still standing. Still here. There are moments in my life when I want to pinch myself. Is this real? Is this real? Oh my God…it is.” The caption read, followed by a red heart emoticon. Streams of congratulatory messages followed, with her supporters and fellow personalities alike, congratulating her.
