ActionSA has confirmed that the Hammanskraal Water Inquiry was expected to hand over its final report on findings on the City of Tshwane’s water quality issues.
Tshwane Media Manager for ActionSA, Nkele Molapo issued a media advisory on Thursday, 5 August 2021, with regards to the Hammanskraal Water Inquiry that is expected to hand over its final report on findings. Molapo confirmed that the inquiry was expected to reach its conclusion, with the independent panel to be led by the esteemed advocate, Professor Jonas Letsoalo, on the City of Tshwane’s failure to provide water to the community of Hammanskraal.
Molapo noted that in April 2021, ActionSA commissioned an independent community inquiry into Hammanskraal water, whereby inputs were received from water experts, community leaders, academics, business and ordinary community members. Molapo also stated that despite the shocking story of the water quality issues reaching its peak, the city consistently let the people of Hammanskraal down by not attending to the matter.
Molapo expressed that indeed, the residents of the community had been subjected to water that was declared as “unfit for human consumption” by the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) for over a decade, and that it was time for their water challenges to be adequately addressed. The event is expected to take place at Rooiwal Water Treatment Plant.
