The ActionSA leader has written an open letter to the president, calling for the security cluster ministers to be fired, while also confirming its pursuit of a lawsuit.
ActionSA leader, Herman Mashaba is the second political party leader to have written an open letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa. On Thursday, 22 July 2021, Mashaba published his open letter addressed to the president, calling for ministers of the security cluster to be fired. The ActionSA leader stated that as concerned citizens of South Africa, one would believe that a truly dutiful president would have fired the members of the security cluster after the unrest last week.
Mashaba noted that last week’s looting spree and destruction of property in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and Gauteng resulted in the senseless loss of more than 200 lives, and countless livelihoods as over 200 malls were impacted. Moreover, more than 800 stores were reportedly looted, including more than 100 burnt. Mashaba also pointed out that the country has lost a gross domestic product (GDP) of about R40 billion.
Mashaba stated that he believes that the loss of life and livelihood should be layered on the president and his ministers. In his letter, he confirmed that ActionSA would be pursuing a lawsuit against President Ramaphosa, Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, security cluster members, and the African National Congress (ANC), all of whom Mashaba claims had the obligation to maintain law and order.

The violence cost on SA's GDP about R50 billion.
It is without a doubt that the loss of life and livelihoods can be laid squarely at you, your ministers’, and the ANC’s feet, @CyrilRamaphosa.https://t.co/vkBayWrhaP
