ActionSA calls for suspension of ANC councillor suspected of looting

ActionSA has called on the Ekurhuleni Speaker of Councils to launch an investigation into an ANC councillor suspected of participating in the recent looting and unrest in the region.

ActionSA’s Sabelo Chalufu published a media advisory by Ekurhuleni Mayoral Candidate, Letlhogonolo Moseki, on Wednesday, 28 July 2021, calling for the Ekurhuleni Speaker of Council to launch an urgent investigation into the African National Congress’ (ANC) looting councillor. ActionSA urged the speaker to launch an investigation into the conduct of an ANC councillor who was arrested on charges of theft and public violence, connected to the looting two weeks ago.

Moseki noted that the councillor is alleged to have participated in the looting of a bottle store in Ekurhuleni, claiming that the ANC’s thuggery knows no bounds. According to him, ANC councillors have allegedly regularly enriched themselves through the misery that the party has supposedly inflicted on businesses and communities. Moseki further stated that it has become clear the councillor had broken the law through his conduct and breached the Municipal Systems Act, as stipulated in the code of conduct for councillors.

ActionSA emphasised that if the region’s council was serious about fighting criminality and weeding out criminals from their ranks, the speaker would immediately launch the investigation into the allegations and suspend the accused councillor pending the outcomes of the investigation.
