ACDP’s Sukers wants government to own its part in vaccination reluctance amongst people

Published on

Marie Sukers has called the government out for not acknowledging its part in making people more reluctant towards pursuing medical care and vaccinations, thus relying on home remedies.

On Thursday, 19 August 2021, member of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), Marie Sukers responded to an article claiming that 80 percent of South Africans may have had COVID-19. She further stated that therefore, a debate on the illusive herd immunity and the nature of natural immunity against COVID-19 is needed.

Sukers expressed that there is a need to admit that many South Africans lived the reality of less-than-optimal healthcare before COVID-19, and to now debunk the claim made that optimal care is not a priority fails to recognise the gaps in a one-sided approach that was taken by the government. Sukers called out the government, stating that all the lies and cover ups of its policy makers may be the biggest reason people do not believe it and that it needs to own that.

Sukers also called on the government to acknowledge that the lack of its credibility is the reason there is major distrust and a push against vaccinations. She further pointed out that it is important to acknowledge the lack of moral leadership in the corporate and public sectors. In addition, that may also be contributing to the unwillingness and apathy to vaccinations, as people no longer believe leaders.
