Kenneth Meshoe and the ACDP have expressed their support for Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, as there have been calls for his removal because of his past inflammatory statements.
Leader of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), Kenneth Meshoe took to Twitter on Tuesday, 23 March 2021, to affirm his support for Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng. This is in light of the calls for Mogoeng’s dismissal because of his previous utterances, which were perceived as destructive by some.
One of the most recent examples was when Mogoeng made his stance on the COVID-19 vaccine clear. In addition to using religion as the premise of why he is opposed to the vaccine, Mogoeng also suggested that the vaccine might be demonic. At the time, the government was attempting to get the public to endorse the vaccine, therefore, his comments were regarded as counterproductive.
The ACDP has since come to his defence and suggested that the calls to have him either retract his statements or step down are an infringement of his freedom of religious belief.
