ACDP clarifies its stance on COVID-19 vaccine and rollout strategy

Published on

The ACDP has issued a statement clarifying that it is not against the use of the vaccine; it is merely calling for transparency on the vaccine and its rollout plan.

The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) took to Facebook on Tuesday, 23 February 2021, to circulate a statement clarifying its stance on the COVID-19 vaccine and rollout strategy. The statement primarily functioned to assert that the party is not against the use of the vaccine, given that the ACDP has, in the past, posed questions suggesting mistrust of the vaccine. Most recently, the party also questioned the effects of face masks, suggesting that wearing them may do more harm than good.

The statement clarified that the party is not against the use of a vaccine. However, what it is against is the use of a vaccine which has not been tested and proven effective against the South African variant of the virus. The ACDP has also raised concerns over the secrecy on the rollout strategy of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The statement read, “It is critical that an open and transparent process is followed with the rollout of the vaccine programme. What makes matters worse is that the ANC openly advertises on its Progressive Business Forum that it is pushing for its members to secure a cut of the vaccine contracts. It will be a fertile ground for looting and corruption with R25 [billion] to R30 [billion] to be spent.”

Moreover, the party also suggested alternative vaccines that are reportedly efficient.
