Hillside celebrated Africa Day with a continental fashion parade – here is an analysis of Friday’s glamour packed episode.
7de Laan is well known for incorporating real life events into its storylines. As such, this past Friday 25 May, the show paid homage to Africa Day by joining with the Vega school of fashion design to bring audiences an African inspired fashion parade.
Of course, there were also other dramatic turns seen in this episode, but the fashion show is what took most of the screen time.
Here is a rundown of how the episode played out:
Vanessa and her team ran into a few last-minute snags. All was ironed out however just in time for the fashion show to begin.
Familiar characters made their entrances to the event and took their seats in anticipation.
Justin arrived late to the club much to Vanessa’s annoyance. He had been confronted by Andre earlier about going to the police and pleading to become a state witness against the Welman’s. He then went to see the police and afterwards to Lesedi to ensure his allegiance to her.
Xander and Bonita received shocking news about Daniel’s condition. Fikani revealed that Daniel’s blood tests showed that he suffers from a rare disease known as severe combined autoimmune deficiency, which could be fatal if not treated correctly.
However, from then on, the episode was all about the fashion show. Celebrity faces popped up in amongst the characters including presenter Leigh-Ann Williams.
Connie’s dress was the showstopper for the fashion parade. She proudly stood on stage beside her model and revelled in her success.

Technical analysis
The round-up of the fashion show storyline was well done. Much anticipation had been built over the last few episodes resulting in a grand conclusion.
The filming of the fashion show was intriguing as it involved swivel shots and focused in on the artwear worn by the models. Overall, this section of the episode was artful and inventive.
