The Welman’s were in despair over Mariaan, while Xander tried his best to win back Vanessa
The latest episode of 7de Laan saw Chris and Rickus in a state over the presumed dead Mariaan. Meanwhile, Xander and Vanessa toyed with the idea of reuniting their family.
Here is an overview of all that happened:
Chris was forced to abandon the woman he believed to be Mariaan as the police rained gunfire down on him. He returned home to find Rickus and Olivia enjoying their time alone together. Chris ordered Olivia out of his house and proceeded to tell Rickus about Mariaan.
Rickus discovered news coverage of the prison escape on social media. He read that the woman who had escaped was injured, but alive. Rickus then went to visit the hospital in search of Mariaan.
Vanessa told Xander about Bonita’s ill state of mind. He refused to take Daniel to see her nonetheless.
Nozi dressed up in her finest to impress Fikani. He did not visit Oppiekoffie though, much to her disappointment.
Leifie told the inmates that she had been put on probation thanks to their recent antics. She vowed to have Bonita committed to the psychiatric unit as revenge for the fire.
Charmaine advised Vanessa not to take Daniel to see Bonita. Vanessa then visited Justin who refused to open up about his grief.
Alexa and Fikani flirted while working about the hospital. Alexa was anxious about seeing her father.
Xander asked Vanessa to consider moving back into the loft apartment with him and the children.
Rickus received a call from Mariaan much to his surprise.

Technical analysis
The writer’s played a tricky game with the audience by leaving Mariaan’s state of health a mystery right until the end of the episode.
However, there were a few major plot flaws in this storyline. Most noticeable was that the other inmates believed that Mariaan had escaped and none noticed Natalie’s absence. Then, Mariaan placed the call to Rickus from the prison seemingly unscathed and as if she had been there all along. These flaws lessen the believability of the story and can deter viewership.
