Vanessa and Xander grew ever closer, while Mariaan made her great escape
7de Laan closed off the week in grand fashion featuring a prison break which ended in gunfire.
Here is a brief rundown of all that happened:
Bonita was disturbed by Amanda’s permanent tattoo work on her chest and begged for it to be removed.
Emma struggled to maintain control of the inmates. She succumbed to her exhaustion and agreed to release Liefie.
Natalie roped Vivian in to capturing Emma before she could release the warden. The two locked Emma away in the Hole.
Natalie organised a meeting to proclaim herself chief of Cell Block B. She schemed to hold the guard’s hostage until the police agreed to release the entire block. She then planned a way for all of them to escape to Mozambique.
Mariaan got hold of the cell keys. She bargained with Liefie to secure her protection. She then set Liefie free.
Natalie’s meeting was interrupted by tear gas sent in by Liefie. The inmates were then lined up for lockdown.
Charmaine grew concerned about Vanessa and Xander’s new closeness. She warned Vanessa not to lead Xander on.
Liefie visited Emma in the Hole. She vowed to ensure that Emma not receive parole.
Mariaan hatched an escape plan while cleaning out the garbage. She called Chris and arranged for him to meet her at the rubbish dump.
Shortly before her planned escape, Mariaan had a run-in with Natalie.
The escaped inmate was gunned down by sharp shooters in a helicopter. Chris was devastated.

Technical analysis
While the writers tried to pull the wool over viewers eyes, their plot twist was instantly picked up on. Many guessed that the escaped prisoner is in fact Natalie and not Mariaan. This could be put down to the very obvious camera work used to disguise the characters face.
Furthermore, the concluding scenes were very clumsy and unconvincing. Perhaps the directors should stick to the sound stage and avoid mimicking big-budget type shows.
