As flames threatened to engulf the women’s prison, Xander and Vanessa received some much-needed good news
Last night’s episode of 7de Laan saw the women’s prison go up in flames. As the inmates struggled their way through the smoke, a few faced serious obstacles.
Here is an overview of all that happened:
Bonita set her mattress alight using Amanda’s nail varnish remover and Fortune’s lighter.
The flames caught onto the mattress harbouring Mariaan. Natalie wittingly left Mariaan trapped inside the mattress to avoid the retribution for helping her attempt an escape.
Emma and Liefie assisted most of the inmates from their cells. Emma dragged Bonita out of the flames despite her objections.
Amanda heard Mariaan’s cries and pulled her from the burning mattress. Amanda then went into labour.
Natalie tried to steal Liefie’s keys but was stopped by Emma. Bonita ran off and later collapsed amidst the flames.
Vivian was helpless to save herself as she was trapped inside the Hole. She begged to see Lips one last time.
Mariaan carried Amanda to safety and helped deliver her baby, Jasmine. A while later Emma found them and called in the fire brigade to assist.
Fikani told Xander and Vanessa that Daniel had not rejected the bone marrow and would make a full recovery from his illness.
Rickus alerted Chris to the fire at the prison. Chris rushed off to find Mariaan.
Justin found out about Amanda’s baby when he visited her at the hospital.
Bonita was devastated to find herself still alive after all her efforts.

Technical analysis
This episode was emotional and action-filled. Although at times over-dramatized and unrealistic, it was a good opening episode for the week.
Fans are becoming impatient with the writers keeping Bonita in the dark about Daniel. Clearly viewers have developed a sense of empathy towards this character and do not enjoy seeing her suffer to this extent.
