The SAFTAs 12 will kick off on Thursday, 22 March, and will continue up until Saturday, 24 March, when the last awards will be handed out.
The nominees of the 12th Annual South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs 12) were announced on 2 February 2018.
SAFTAs 12 features various categories ranging from TV Soap/telenovela, TV Drama, TV Comedy, children’s programmes, Factual & Educational Programmes to student films and Talk Shows, and so on.
Inxeba (The Wound), Tjovitjo, Isibaya, Ses Top La 4, Apocalypse Now Now, Thuli no Thulani and Inumber Number are just some of the popular names featured on the list of 2018 SAFTAs nominees. You can take a look at the full list of the SAFTAs12 nominees here.
According to the organisers, the SAFTAs are “more than an awards ceremony.” The fundamental goal that stand at the basis of the awards is “to celebrate excellence, encourage collaboration, and develop new talent while profiling South African talent and productions.”
The “backbone of the SAFTAs” are the the 262 judges under the guidance of two overall judging chairpersons, Firdoze Bulbulia and Thembi Mtshali-Jones.
The SAFTAs committee consists of the NFVF, CCISFA, SASFED, eTV, M-Net, SABC and StarSat.
The ‘GOLDEN HORN’ is the SAFTAs trophy, which has three heads symbolising collective effort, community, and the recognition of the individual as part of a team.
The South African Film and Television Awards is being managed under the custodianship of the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture.
